'Sharks' is primarily a film about love,' states Lasse Spang Olsen about his new film. 'It takes place in an environment completely devoid of love and without any breeding ground for it. Nonetheless it is allowed to blossom in its own peculiar way, and that’s what interested me in the story. For a long time I’ve wanted to make a romantic film, but just not in the traditional way.'

'Sharks' has been a comeback for Allan Olsen, who in the late 70’s and 80’s made a great contribution to Danish film in 'Me and Charly' (1978) and ''Chronic Innocence' (1985). Ole Ernst also appears in a significant minor role, as well as one of Denmark’s greatest comedic talents, Casper Christensen, who plays his first role in a Danish feature film. There are other well-known faces like the heavy-weight champion himself Brian Nielsen, the politician and actor Klaus Bondam, the street performer par excellence Erik Clausen and the musician René Dif from Aqua who add color and life to 'Sharks''. Of course, Iben Hjejle is our main character on par with Kim Bodnia.

'Sharks' was financially backed by the Film Institute’s 60/40 agreement and was produced by ASA Film in cooperation with Scanbox Entertainment, Easy Film and Bella Entertainment. The total budget for the film is approx. DKK 13 million.
