A new epic has been released – Jacob Gronlykke and Hans Anthon Lynge’s “Heart of Light” – the first epic Greenlandic film of our time – in Greenlandic and taking place in Greenland. It premiered in Greenland on January 25. In week 4 the soundtrack was released on CD by ULO.

About the music
The composer JOACHIM HOLBEK, known for his score for one of Lars von Trier’s films, has composed the original score for the film. Here it’s compiled in 6 individual lovely and moving melodies recorded by Prague’s City Orchestra directed by Mario Clemens.

The main score is sung with great sensitivity by 11-year-old INUNNGUAQ PETRUSSEN, who has previously appeared on several CDs. A number of popular Danish and foreign artists also contribute in various scenes of the film: RANDI LAUBECK’s “Madness Sadness”, TV2’s “It’s society’s fault”, KLF’s “America: What time is love?” and LAID BACK’s “Sunshine Reggae”.

SUME contribute two songs from their first album from 1973, namely “Piffiit Nutaat” and “Naluara Ilisimaneraa”, which both play an important role in the film. Today, 25 years later, Sume’s music seems just as fresh and intense as it was back then.
VAJGAT OERKESTRI from the closed down mining town of Qullissat play an important role in “Heart of Light”. In the 50’s and 60’s the was the most popular orchestra in Greenland. The two tracks here are taken from their CD “Vajgat Orkesteri 1988” which was recorded in Qullissat in the same year for the town’s former citizens.

Moreover, MARIINA appears on the soundtrack with “Sinnattoq” from their latest CD “Sissami” and NUKÂKA MOTZFELDT who plays a traditional Greenlandic drum dance as well as her own modern music fantasy of the old drum dance – “Drumdance for You”.

Finally we hear NINA K. JORGENSEN (Qulleg) sing a beautiful hymn and ARNANNGUAQ HOEGH sings the popular children’s song “Soralumma”. “HEART OF LIGHT” is a fascinating epic film that all of Greenland probably will see. When listening to the soundtrack, you can experience or re-experience the drama and beauty of the film – a musical journey through Greenland of the present and past and an exciting mix of international and Greenlandic music.
